Acting Greek Tragedy

Recording 3 - Clytemnestra and Electra, from Sophocles’ Electra – Olivia Bussey and Lizzie Southall.

There are three tragedies all on this moment of revenge in the life of Electra, one by each of the three tragic playwrights. In this scene by Sophocles, Clytemnestra is obstructed in her intention of making offerings to Apollo by the presence of her daughter outside, and near the altar. Electra seizes the initiative and accuses her mother in public, in front of the chorus, and Clytemnestra responds in fury.
