Acting Greek Tragedy |
Recording 1 - Herald, from Aeschylus’ Agamemnon – Richard Brindley
This scene is taken from the first tragedy of the only surviving trilogy, Oresteia by Aeschylus. The overall context of the first tragedy, Agamemnon, is the homecoming of Agamemnon, conqueror of Troy, to Argos and to his wife Clytemnestra. His actual arrival is prefigured in a number of ways, and one of these is the Herald, sent on ahead to make the formal announcement of his general’s return to the chorus and the queen. The Herald speaks to the chorus, and is drawn in to describing the experiences of the army in the long siege of Troy.
